Highlands Elementary held their school spelling bee. Eleven students from third through fifth grade participated. These students did a wonderful job as is evidenced by the fact that this bee went through the highest number of rounds Highlands has ever had!
Fifth grader Scarlett Kenward won in the fifteenth round with the word, "Engraved." Her runner up was third grader Levi Gray and third place was taken by fourth grader Payton Butler.
We are so proud of all of them!

Mrs. Dean's St. Jude's Run

We are very happy to report that Highlands' Media Specialist/Librarian Emily Dean had huge success during her "Change for Children" campaign to raise money for her St. Jude's Memphis to Mobile marathon relay run!

This past week, Highlands SGA members collected change each morning from students, parents, and faculty members. This change was collected in buckets as a way for students to "vote" for who they wanted to see in our dunking booth at the Highlands' annual Fall Festival; Coach Thompson was the winner!

At Fall Festival, students were able to pay $1.00 for two chances to dunk Coach Greg Thompson, teachers Mrs. Britton Terrell, Mrs. Hanna Golson, and Miss Shupp, and Highlands' very own principal, Mrs. Vicki Davis.

All the money raised at this event also went towards Mrs. Dean's St. Jude's run.

The total amount raised for the week was $530.00!

In total (through online donations and the "Change for Children" campaign),
Mrs. Dean has raised well over her original goal of $1,600.00!!!

We are so proud and excited that Highlands takes an active role in helping others.

Kindness Box

aaa

After Hurricane Harvey made its way through south Texas, many schools and homes were left devastated by the damage and without the supplies they dearly needed for the new school year.
Highlands Elementary saw the need and decided to adopt one of these schools! Supplies were collected and then donated to Tinsley Elementary School in Houston, Texas. Staff, students, parents, and community members donated to this "Kindness Box" and Motobilt paid for the shipping.

What an amazing way to help out fellow students and educators!
